About the Vet School--GUVMA

This is Glasgow University Veterinary Medical Association (aka Student Council). They are responsible for organizing all the sports, social and clinical clubs at the vet school. They are also the organization that represents the students to the staff. If you have any complaints/issues regarding the program you will take it to them and they will address the administration/staff.
GUVMA also plans all the vet school oriented social events throughout the year, which you will quickly realize is the best part of your first year (okay and your first suturing lesson). They have two student representatives from each year, who act as the point of contact between GUVMA and your class. Anyone can run for this position - which can be a great experience and a real CV booster!
Everyone at vet school is required to be a member, joining is very cheap and the one of payment of around £50 is your dues for the whole five years of vet school! Without membership you will have to pay more to get into any vet school-organised event, you won't get a say in any vet school elections or issues and you won't be able to attend vet ball! Our advice is get it sorted as soon as possible so you can get on with enjoying all the sports, clubs, societies + socials!
They also run a shop where you can buy candies/sweets, textbooks (at the beginning of the year) scrubs, farm stuff, and sometimes suture supplies.
There stock is inconsistent though and often do not adequately stock supplies and books. You may have to wait a few weeks to get your books and boiler suits (your first farm practical is within the first 2 weeks and your first exam is usually with the first 2 months), so get in line early if you want to get your stuff from here.

The GUVMA presidents for the 2021-22 school year are Karen Riebsame & Mary Ward. They're both brilliant and will ensure you have the best first year possible!
