Welcome to My ePortfolio
My name is Laurel Anne Brenton and I am a veterinary student in the University of Glasgow's Class of 2018.
I have previously graduated from Stony Brook University, in my home state of New York, with a degree in Marine Sciences. While studying I was introduced to the state's marine mammal and sea turtle rescue program, where I started working with common local species of seals, porpoises, and dolphins, as well as endangered species, such as the Kemp's ridley sea turtle. The hands-on husbandy and clinical experiences led me far and away from the laboratories of marine chemistry and physics, and I found myself working towards a new degree in veterinary science. I started working at a small animal preventative care hospital in 2010 as a veterinary nurse, and then in 2012 began work at a dog and cat specialty and emergency center as an overnight ER technician. With the help and encouragement from every doctor I have worked for I put applications in to 9 vet schools, 5 US and 4 UK. After all the paperwork and interviews only two schools accepted me, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Destined for Scotland, my choice was made very simple for which school to choose, as my mentor had graduated from Glasgow! So I packed up my cats and my bagpipes and headed off to start all this hard work.
